Subject: Best Practices in Emailing a Professor
This is a memo intended to advise you on best practices for emailing professors. I hope that these suggestions will be helpful in making your emails more professional and well-received.
Tips for success:
- Addressing the recipient by their proper title
- Proofreading
- Using proper grammar
- Not using acronyms or abbreviations
- Using an appropriate and professional email address
- Avoiding overusing the word ‘you’ in the body of the email
- Refraining from using imperative statements because they can be interpreted as aggressive
- Being polite
- Ensuring that you provide your contact information
I hope that this helps you to communicate with your professors more importantly, as it is a very important skill to have. If you have any further questions, please contact me at hannahbecker1000@gmail.com.
