Subject: Best Practices in Emailing a Professor

This is a memo intended to advise you on best practices for emailing professors. I hope that these suggestions will be helpful in making your emails more professional and well-received.

Tips for success:

  • Addressing the recipient by their proper title
  • Proofreading
  • Using proper grammar
  • Not using acronyms or abbreviations
  • Using an appropriate and professional email address
  • Avoiding overusing the word ‘you’ in the body of the email
  • Refraining from using imperative statements because they can be interpreted as aggressive
  • Being polite
  • Ensuring that you provide your contact information

I hope that this helps you to communicate with your professors more importantly, as it is a very important skill to have. If you have any further questions, please contact me at hannahbecker1000@gmail.com.
