Curriculum Guide

Overview

tree

The purpose of this Guide is primarily to help educational professionals incorporate this site into their own teaching and instructional design. Think of the Guide as a user’s manual or roadmap for the E-portfolio Learning Commons. In addition, the Guide offers background information on some of the pedagogical and design choices represented in the Commons.

The Curriculum Guide, and the site as a whole, is written for an audience consisting of teachers of senior secondary or first-year college and university students. Of course, the site will hopefully prove useful to all.

Because of this particular arrangement, however, the site is designed to meet the needs, ultimately, of two very different communities: educators using the Commons, and the 17-22-year-old students creating e-portfolios in their classes. It is important to bear in mind that the intended audience for the Commons is the former group rather than the latter. But meeting the needs of this group also implies meeting the needs of their audience, in turn, and so the Commons may be regarded as reflecting both a direct audience of teachers and an indirect or implied audience of young adults in senior secondary school or junior college/university.
