AnthroSource Titles: Links **UPDATE**

American Anthropologist and other AnthroSource links are now working in the ejournal A-Z list.

Previously…
AnthroSource (the site for journals the American Anthropological Association) has re-vamped their entire website. While it looks great, the links to the journals no longer work. You can go directly to the list of journals here, but hopefully our links in the A-Z ejournal list will be working soon. Stay tuned.

eResources Christmas Schedule: lib-ejhelp / lib-elinkhelp

‘Tis the season for being elsewhere. And in that spirit, eResources is running away. There will be no help on the other end of lib-ejhelp nor lib-elinkhelp from Dec. 20th till Jan. 5th. But to make up for any hurt feelings this may cause, we promise to be extra helpful in the New Year. And we may even roll out a new service or two. Watch this Blog.
Enjoy the holidays!

SFX: Maintenance & Upgrade

On December 22nd & 23rd, SFX will be unavailable as we perform maintenance, updating and some system upgrading. This means that the yellow UBC eLink button will not work those days, nor will the Citation Linker. The links in the ejournal A-Z list will NOT be affected by this. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

VPN, RSVPN: But am I really connected?

A patron swears they are connected to VPN or RSVPN at home, but they still can’t access a database. To see if they are really connected, have them go to CMYIP (see my IP). The IP address for VPN should start 142.103…, RSVPN starts 128.189… Different numbers, NOT connected. Advise patrons to clear their browser’s cache & cookies (“Clear Private Data” in FireFox, “Internet Options” in IE), re-start the browser and set up VPN fresh or try RSVPN again.

Global Market Information Database **UPDATE LATEST**

Hazzah!

GMID is back in business. And, wait for it, the old error message problem seems to be cured as well.
Enjoy.

Previously…
Due to issues with the EZproxy server, GMID will likely not be available till Wednesday, Dec. 10. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please watch for further updates.

Previously…
The GMID is currently unavailable. Attempts to access lead to a log-in screen asking for a password. Your Library card number should normally by-pass this screen and take you to the familiar “I Agree” button. The problem may be a hold-over from past issues or a result of the EZproxy being down. We are looking into it. Stay tuned.

EZproxy & Links to Print Journals **BACK UP**

The links are back and working from the A-Z ejournal list, the eLink menu, Catalogue Quick Search journal box, etc. EZ proxy is mostly working (see GMID posting).

Previously…
Folks, as you may have seen from the Library Home page:

“Two Library servers will undergo maintenance on Wednesday, Dec 03 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. During this time, access to applications such as the New Materials website, the Chung Collection Inventory, the Media Booking and Course Reserves forms, and EZPROXY rewriting proxy service will be unavailable.”

As well, links from the A-Z ejournal list to print records are not working and searching from the “Journal/Ejournal” box on the Catalogue page is not working. (Searching in the Catalogue itself works). Let’s hope this is all resolved by 6:00pm as promised.

RSVPN re-boot

FYI:

“RSVPN failover unit will be rebooted twice, during the following windows:
Friday December 5th, 6-8am
Saturday December 6th, 6-8am
It is very unlikely that this will affect the RSVPN service…”

Uh huh. But be aware, just in case.

and *UPDATE 2*

NOW for the good news: they are back up!

Previously…
NOT good news.
It appears there a break in our IP router service to OCLC. It’s been reported to Systems, but we fear we need to wait for the service hub to be fixed before we will have access restored. Affected: www.oclc.org – all affiliated customer support, WorldCat – subscribed and free,
FirstSearch Databases – 10 titles, OCLC Connexion – cataloguing client

Previously-er…
OCLC’s website seems to be down, and all FirstSearch databases as well.
We are looking into the cause. Don’t panic (ok, maybe a little). Stay tuned.

Hello?
The eerie quiet on the RefWorks front suggests issues have been resolved for now.
Stay tuned.

Having problems with RefWorks and the VPN? Read on…

“Dear RefWorks Administrators,

RefWorks has recently been experiencing some technical outages due to hardware upgrades as well as hosting service maintenance… If you have users that are still experiencing issues logging into RefWorks, please first consider restarting your computer to refresh network settings and clear active internet files. If rebooting does not resolve the login problem, please report any outstanding issues to support@refworks.com. While we do not anticipate any further interruptions in service at this time, we do appreciate your support and understanding during this period.”

Rebooting has worked for several people here. We’ll let you know if there are further notices from RefWorks.

*REM* You can check to see if you really are in VPN by going to [ http://www.library.ubc.ca/home/proxyinfo ] and clicking on “Test Proxy Settings Now.” If the IP starts with 142, you ARE in VPN.
