The Associate Enrolment Service Professional (AESP) is a registrarial professional, an advisory service specialist, and a highly visible representative of Enrolment Services (ES) and the University.

As a member of the Student Support & Advising unit in Enrolment Services, the AESP provides professional advice for students across ES areas of responsibility, including but not limited to: student financial support, tuition, fee assessment and collection, student records, registration, admissions, transfer credit and domestic student recruitment, as well as effective referrals to partners across both campuses.

This August, we hired 4 AESPs to support us in the 2016/2017 academic year. Keep reading to find out some more information about these new staff.

Ines Belic

Innes

Professional: Ines completed her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Family Studies at UBC in 2010. Throughout her studies, she took on various student positions at UBC, including working at Conferences and Accommodation which she continued to do after graduation. She worked at Vancity before taking on her most recent role as Senior Program Assistant at the Sauder Undergraduate Office. During the school year, she volunteers at Pathways, mentoring and tutoring youth in the Downtown Eastside in grades 8 & 9.

Personal: Ines grew up in the West End and considers herself a real downtown kid whose summers were spent at English Bay, and lunches roaming on Denman and Robson St. While she loves hiking, she would choose a beach over a mountain any day. All of her hard earned money goes to travel, which goes hand in hand with her love for photography. This year’s trips (and attached photos) included Hawaii and Italy, and while sights have been set on Iceland, there is large uncertainty over how she would handle the cold. She’s quite certain she wouldn’t.

Claire Vial

CLAIRE1

Professional Background: Claire is UBC alumni with a BSc and a BEd in Biology.  After graduation, she worked at Vancouver Island where she coordinated marine science education programs for students of all ages. Her interest in working with post-secondary students led her to return to UBC as an Admissions Coordinator last year and she is happy to continue working in Enrolment Services.

Personal: Claire is originally from Victoria, BC and came to Vancouver to attend UBC in 2008. During her spare time Claire enjoys dancing, camping, live music and hiking.  Claire also recently discovered running and enjoys ambitiously signing up for races and then regretting the decision a few miles in.  She is always planning her next trip and spent much of this summer traveling around the Pacific Northwest in search of the best food, views and outdoor concerts.

Brian Leavitt

Brian

Professional: Brian moved to Vancouver from Calgary to attend UBC, and liked the lack of snow so much he decided to stay. After graduating with a BA degree in Philosophy, Brian worked for a local computer company for almost 5 years. After returning to UBC, he has worked for Enrolment Services, UBC IT, Arts Academic Advising, and the Department of Political Science. He is excited to be back at Enrolment Services, and to be joining such a great team.

Personal: When not working Brian can be found enjoying such things as board games, travelling, eating, catching pokemon, house boating, watching TV, and cooking, and is a huge Seahawks fan (season ticket holder!).

Shaun Shan

Professional Background: Shaun graduated from Simon Fraser University with a BA in Criminology. Completed the UBC Immigration: Laws, Policies and Procedures certificate course.  He has worked at the University of British Columbia since 2011, formerly as an Admissions Coordinator and an Enrolment Services Coordinator.

Personal Background: Shaun grew up in Beijing, China. He came to Vancouver in 2003 as an international student. In his personal time, Shaun enjoys boxing, running, and playing soccer.

If you see any of the AESPs around Brock Hall, be sure to give them a friendly ES welcome!
