Introducing a new ES Connected Blog series called ‘Three Great Places To….”

Each month, I will focus on different topics and find great places on campus to eat food, do yoga, relax and mediate, attend events, meet colleagues and more! If you have any suggestions for future topics to be covered, please indicated them in the comments section below.

3 Great places

Anyone find it hard to find healthy and CHEAP food on campus ? I’ve found three places on UBC Vancouver’s campus that have become go-to spots for me on those days when I didn’t pack a lunch but want to stay on track and resist comfort food temptations.

  1. Ideas Lunch and Wine Bar

Avoid the long student lines and check out this is fabulous place in the basement of the Peter Wall Institute. I usually go here when I want to take a longer lunch break with a colleague or friend. A healthy and delicious lunch of warm soup and fresh salad is just 12 dollars – and you can go back for seconds if you’re really hungry. It’s the perfect get-away from the hustle and bustle of the student lunch rush. Each day, the soup and salad options vary and always accommodate vegan and gluten free eaters as well. This place has lovely servers and you can indulge in after-meal coffee/tea and desserts if you’d like.

2. Loafe Cafe

This bustling student spot is located in the new Robert Lee Alumni Centre.  It offers made-to-order gourmet sandwiches, vibrant seasonal salads, homemade soups, artisan local roasted coffee and fresh baked goods. Some favorites of mine are ‘Tuscan Kale Ceasar’ and ‘Coconut Quinoa Salad’. They also have delicious Cartem’s donuts if you fancy something sweet. Definitely hard to get a table, though!

3. Grocery Check-Out Fresh Market

This is my go-to spot when I’m having one of my ‘I’m-too-busy-so-I-have-to-eat-at-my-desk’ days. There’s never a line and you can choose from a large selection of fresh salads and other grocery items to get you through the day. They are located in the Nest and is so perfect for folks with allergies or food sensitivities who need fresh ingredients (lots of gluten-free options!) The best part is that a delicious salad is between 4-6 dollars! Yay for cheap salads!
