“There are phenomenal people everywhere, and all they need is access to education and opportunity. What we’re trying to do is take down the barriers.”
-Aaron Rasmussen, Founder & CEO
Canada has the highest percentage of tertiary education in the world, and for good reason: those with bachelor’s degrees have shown to earn up to 60% more than their high school graduate counterparts. But, education is expensive – Canada ranks 5th in overall private education spending in the world, and the average bachelor’s degree student graduated in 2015 with $28,000 in debt. In 2018, 1 in 6 insolvencies in Ontario were signed by student debtors. And, likely largely in part due to pandemic strains, Canadian institutions saw a reduction in domestic enrolments in 2019/2020 for the first time since 2015.
What then, can institutions do to prepare themselves, and students, for the educational demands of the job market, without putting students further behind?
