I did the forms!- I also wanted to note my feedback on your OER. I loved the questions you had in all of your Google Forms, they were curated very well and had me thinking critically. Especially in the: Design the Teacher’s Learning Pathway activity. I loved being introduced in your OER to how AI can proactively track the signs of student progress and measure their improvement over time. I think it will be very helpful to my profession to use AI in this way in the near future. I struggle with catching all of my students before they hit rock bottom, and I think AI can support in this way as you guys have clearly outlined in your graphics and text. The introduction video to all of the features with MS Copilot was helpful too, as I didn’t know they had such extended features! Timely support and intervention is key to supporting our learners, and if we can use AI responsibly when doing this then that is an asset. It is also important to note that teachers are still key agents in this whole process as you mentioned, we should always be verifying the information AI gives us before we adapt and take action 🙂

I really appreciated your point about using AI to help identify students who may be struggling so that teachers can intervene before they fall too far behind. I think AI has real potential to ease some of that pressure by making it easier to notice patterns that might otherwise be missed.
Working through the OER—and especially while developing our upcoming venture project—I found myself exploring platforms I had never used before, or revisiting tools I thought I already knew, only to realize how quickly they have evolved. It really reinforced for me that an increasingly important skill for teachers, just like professionals in any field, is simply staying informed about what tools are out there and thinking critically about how they can support our practice.
At the same time, we wanted to emphasize that AI should always be used with verification and caution, particularly when it comes to student data and privacy. Ethical decision-making and professional judgment remain fundamentally human responsibilities. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Keeping the tools together helps produce a full picture and can provide the teacher with an easier, less time consuming path to follow, when making important decisions on what supports a student may require.
What I found most interesting was the idea of assessment, instruction, and practice all working together instead of being treated as separate parts. In schools, we often use several different programs, so I could see how having the information connected would make it easier to understand what students need.
I also liked that AI was presented as something that supports teachers rather than replaces their judgment. The section on progress monitoring stood out to me because it showed how support can be adjusted while students are learning, instead of waiting until the end of a unit to realize that something was not working.

Thank you for highlighting those points! One thing I came to appreciate while creating this OER is that the real value of AI in education may not come from adding another separate tool, but rather from helping educators connect assessment, instruction, and practice in a more intentional way. When all this information is brought together, teachers can respond to student needs while learning is still happening rather than only reviewing results afterward (when it may be too late!). Thus, I also became aware that this timely data is only useful when educators have the professional judgement and capacity to interpret it. AI can definitely identify the patterns, but teachers still bring the knowledge of their students and relationships needed to decide how to respond.

Thank you for your reflection! I agree, when assessment, instruction, and practice are disconnected across different programs, teachers end up doing the work of connecting the dots themselves. When tools handle that work, teachers get some of their time and mental bandwidth back for the parts of the job that are distinctly human! This connection could support an educator renaissance by freeing up time and attention teachers can redirect toward teaching practices tailored to emerging needs in the classroom as well as relationships with students.
Thank you for taking the time to go throug han review our project. There are some great tools out there and improvements are moving at a rapid pace. As teachers, we have more power than we realize. If we insist on the tools taking on a supporting role and refuse to engage with the ones that do not serve the best interests of the students, we can drive a lot of the changes that are implemented in our areas.

I really enjoyed working through this OER. It was exceptionally well organized, engaging, and easy to follow. The progression from connected learning ecosystems to the intelligence layer and finally to practical classroom applications built understanding logically without feeling overwhelming. The concise explanations, key takeaways, and short quizzes reinforced each concept before introducing the next, making the learning experience both interactive and effective.
Perhaps the greatest strength of the OER was its consistent message that AI should support teachers rather than replace them. Placing educators at the center of the learning ecosystem reinforces the idea that professional judgment, relationships, and contextual decision-making remain essential, even as AI becomes more capable. That human-centered perspective is what makes the vision of the Educational Renaissance both compelling and realistic.
One question I was left with is how the Educational Renaissance can realistically occur when many school divisions still rely on fragmented platforms that don’t communicate with one another. If a connected learning ecosystem depends on interoperability, what will ultimately drive both educational technology companies and school divisions to prioritize integration over disconnected systems?
Overall, I thought this was an excellent OER and a great way to conclude the course. It brought together many of the ideas we have explored throughout ETEC 522 while looking ahead to where educational technology may be heading next. It was a strong note to end on and left me optimistic about AI’s potential to support—not replace—great teaching.

Thank you for such a thoughtful response! Your question about interoperability gets at one of the biggest challenges we encountered while developing the OER. Without a doubt, it is easy to imagine an Educational Renaissance built on connected data, timely insights, and seamless support, but much harder to achieve when schools/school boards are working across fragmented systems with different vendors, contracts, and privacy requirements.
One realization I had through this project is that integration may not happen simply because the tech exists. It will most likely require pressure from several directions at once:
1. School boards demanding interoperability
2. Governments establishing clearer standards
3. Vendors/suppliers recognizing that closed ecosystems can limit adoption
I also wonder whether strong evidence of better intervention, reduced workload, and improved decision-making will be what finally makes integration an expectation rather than an optional feature.
At the same time, connecting more data also raises concerns about privacy and surveillance. Perhaps the real question is not only how we connect systems, but how we do so while protecting student privacy.

I like your point that interoperability is unlikely to happen simply because the technology exists. I agree that meaningful change will require school divisions, governments, and vendors working together, and I appreciate that you also raised the importance of protecting student privacy as systems become more connected.
Your response also reinforced something I have wrestled with throughout my MET program. Even if we solve the technical challenge of interoperability, how do we ensure that education continues to shape technology rather than technology reshaping education? One of the strengths of your OER was that it kept teachers at the center of the learning ecosystem. I also appreciated the distinction between novice and experienced teachers, recognizing that AI can support each group differently while still relying on professional judgment.
Researchers such as Horvath (2025), Willingham (2021), and Hattie (2023) remind us that meaningful learning begins with sound pedagogy and an understanding of how students learn. Technology has tremendous potential to amplify great teaching, but only when it is used intentionally and in service of educational goals.
To me, that’s what makes your vision of the Educational Renaissance so compelling. It isn’t about replacing teachers with AI, but about empowering teachers with better tools while keeping learning and learners at the center.

Thank you for your feedback! One thing I kept thinking about while we built the OER was equity. A system can help identify patterns earlier, but we still need to ask ourselves whether the data being collected is fair, whether certain students could be overidentified, and whether the recommended interventions actually fit the learner’s context. For me, that reinforced why us educators need to remain at the centre of these systems rather than simply following what the data recommends.

Thanks for a really interesting OER. This concept is a fascinating one, in that most of the technologies our class has presented on will implement AI and other techs as tools, whereas this application of AI could truly transform the very concept of education. As you said early on, it’s not exaggerating to compare it with literacy itself.
One thought I had that I don’t believe was mentioned: if our traditional roles and methods of teaching are transformed, it seems obvious that teacher training programs would be as well. Though, that said, much of teacher training already focuses on the soft skills that the Educator Renaissance would promote. What changes, if any, do you see in the way bachelors and masters of education programs are taught as we progress into the Educator Renaissance?

Thank you for raising this question! It is such an important extension of the Educator Renaissance. I agree that many teacher education programs already emphasize the human skills that may become even more valuable as AI takes on more tasks in the classroom like relationship-building, communication, and professional judgment.
What I think may change is how those skills are developed and applied. Teacher preparation could place much greater emphasis on AI literacy, data and AI ethics, and evaluating AI-generated recommendations. UNESCO’s AI Competency Framework for Teachers already identifies a human-centred mindset, AI ethics, AI pedagogy, and AI for professional learning as core competencies for educators (Miao & Cukurova, 2024). A review by Sperling et al. (2024) also suggests that AI literacy in teacher education needs to be connected to teachers’ broader professional knowledge rather than treated simply as learning how to operate new technologies.
Perhaps the biggest shift, though, will be moving away from preparing teachers to master specific technologies and toward preparing them to critically evaluate whatever technology comes next. Since individual AI tools will continue to change, I think the more persisting skill will be knowing how to question their outputs and decide whether they actually improve teaching and learning. In that sense, the Educator Renaissance may make professional judgment even more important, not less.

I appreciate your point about moving toward developing the ability to critically evaluate tech as it emerges. It makes me wonder whether this could actually require us to rethink what we consider “expertise” in teaching. If AI can increasingly handle things like lesson planning, differentiation, assessment, and even provide recommendations based on student data, perhaps teacher expertise will become less about knowing how to perform those tasks and more about knowing when to accept, question, or reject what AI suggests.
That also raises an interesting question for teacher education: should we be giving future teachers more opportunities to practice making these kinds of AI-mediated professional judgments, rather than simply teaching them about AI ethics and tools? I wonder what that might look like in a bachelor’s or master’s program. It feels like a constructivism vs cognitivism type question. It seems to me that if we teach that “doing = learning,” we should also be “doing” in our own learning.

This question is really intriguing to me, and I think it’s especially fitting for this topic. I do think teaching programs need to evolve just as much as the changes we’ll continue to see in our classrooms.
Reflecting on my own teacher education program, I often felt there needed to be more emphasis on how classrooms and students’ needs have changed. As teachers, especially those of us who don’t have personal experience raising children, I think we need a deeper understanding of child development, what students are navigating today, and the lasting impact that COVID has had on learning and well-being.
To me, the Educator Renaissance isn’t simply about introducing a new set of exciting AI tools. It’s about reimagining what teaching should look like so that we can better meet students where they are today. That means having more conversations about digital literacy, digital stewardship, social-emotional learning, self-regulation, empathy, and collaboration—skills that are becoming increasingly essential both in and beyond the classroom.
At the same time, I think it’s important to maintain balance. We shouldn’t let every new innovation replace practices that have proven valuable over time, but we also shouldn’t be afraid to question long-standing approaches when they no longer meet students’ needs. I think teacher education programs have an important role to play in creating space for both preserving what works and thoughtfully exploring what needs to change.

I enjoyed exploring your OER and appreciated the consistent emphasis on keeping educators at the center of AI-supported learning. Across the sections on early intervention, Copilot, professional learning, and connected learning ecosystems, I thought you all did a strong job of demonstrating how AI can identify patterns and provide recommendations while educators ultimately retain the professional judgment and contextual knowledge needed to make meaningful decisions.
I also enjoyed the range of activities, particularly the Teacher’s Learning Pathway. One consideration I have while working through the OER was the cumulative activity load. With multiple Google Forms, quizzes, and the six-module Renaissance course, there were points where I found myself moving in and out of the OER quite frequently. Perhaps identifying core activities and positioning others as optional extensions could preserve some of your interactivity while making the overall pathways more manageable.
Additionally, throughout the semester, many of our classmates chose Google Forms for reflections. The questions prompted some interesting professional and pedagogical decisions, and I would have been interested in seeing what our classmates came up with. Perhaps considering putting them a Padlet would help us better compare perspectives and learn from one another and feel more like a collaborative learning experience.
I also encountered a small technical issue with the six-module Renaissance activity where Modules 4 and 5 did not initially register are complete, so I had to retake and rework across both quizzes a second and third time.
Ultimately, your OER left me wondering, in the age of AI, how do we ensure that an Educator Renaissance actually reduces teacher workload rather than replacing existing responsibilities with new forms of ‘work’ (e.g. data interpretation, AI oversight, continuous professional learning on AI, etc.)

Working through this module brought up different considerations for me in thinking about how, on one hand, AI can reduce cognitive load on the daily handling of routine tasks, like generating first drafts, but also assist in identifying patterns in student data that we might miss. It is interesting how the same technology that can support us also complicates our ability to see what students truly understand when they use it to produce their work.
This paradox pushed me to think about where my role as a teacher actually sits and what that looks like beyond the delivery of content and traditional assessment norms. It pushes us to not only design experiences where student thinking visibly compounds over time, but also to situate educators as interpreters of the individual context each learner brings. Having professional judgement towards learners and their cultural background, emotional state, and relational trust, is the human element that no algorithm will be able to replicate.

Your contemplations are the same as the ones that are going through my mind too. We are being asked to teach more content, faster, with more accuracy, to make sure we don’t miss anyrhing. The biggest encouragement is that we are all united and holding strong as the guardians of our students. We are refusing to relinquish control of our roles in their learning; insisting that AI offers tools to assist but not to replace. With all change, there is a pedulum that swings to the extremes before settling into a more moderate middle ground. I really like how you expressed that in the final snetence.

I really enjoyed my journey through the different pages of your OER and the fitting activities that helped reinforce what we learned as well as reflect on our own practices with AI in teaching.
What really resonated with me was the content on your Seeing Students Sooner page. I reflected on my time in elementary and high school and remember moments when I fell through the cracks and could really have benefited from technology alerting teachers before summative assessment came around. You aptly mentioned that even with all of these great technologies available to us, many teachers and schools still use outdated technology and teach content pre-dating this new age that demands new skills. I’m reminded of my niece who has successfully worked her way out of an IEP with lots of hard work, but I think if technology, such as AI dashboards, had been implemented in her school and caught onto her struggles early, she may have avoided being put on an IEP.
I like how you mentioned that AI cannot replace human qualities such as empathy, creativity, ethical decision making, and human relationships. Imagining a world where we are taught solely by AI seems pretty dystopian! Teacher training, I think, should be prioritized responsible AI use in teaching and how to teach students to use it responsibly and critically. Burn out and busy schedules can tempt students to rely too heavily on AI for assignments, so it’s up to teachers to design assignments that allow students to really demonstrate what they have learned while also considering students’ “bandwidth” and needs. It can be quite tricky, especially for online teachers (I’ve been there!), to come up with assignment ideas that are “AI-proof.” Ironically, this could be a question for AI. 🙂

There are many approches to learning and AI is certainly challenging all of us. As we navigate this new world, our students are pushing us to keep up, especially through their attempts to circumvent the need to engage in the ways we hope, especially for online learning. Teachers are needing to adapt and change, often faster than their students. Sometimes easier said than done when they are raised with tech and most teachers are just trying to keep up with it. Given that we are all exploring the same new world together, perhaps letting them outshine us by teaching us of their explorations, might be one way to support the new era that we are in. Sometimes, givinng ourselves the permission to be the imperfect humans might be the lesson in empathy and grace that AI will be unlikey to ever offer.

I found your website thoroughly researched and grounded in practical concerns of everyday teaching, as well as different tiers of concern such as school and district wide initiatives.
In our own school division we have come across many of the things that you have mentioned in you website, including appropriate use of AI and to what degree it can enhance learning and other tasks. One thing I found particularly interesting is you stance on how AI can assist with professional development of teachers. Teacher PD is often lacklustre, sporadic, and boring. While there is PD that is good, generally the basic structure of PD has not changed in a very long time. As a result, your proposal of an AI that provides continuous PD in an interactive way stood out.
Your other idea about early intervention is something that certainly has merit. The thing I anticipate to be the largest barrier is the implementation of a fully integrated system that can collect all the data for AI analysis. Teachers have a hard enough time trying to pare down the number of websites they use due to the wide range of functions they need. Additionally, websites and programs are generally not made with the intention of interacting with each other, and our IT department would potentially protest if this was possible due to security risks of transferring data between platforms. In terms of one unified program, it would take a lot of money to produce, and big educational program developers would protest its production because it would mean that they would lose a lot of profit to this new software.
Overall, I think you raised a lot of very interesting ideas and think that you had a very well put together website.

Our group has teachers from different backgrounds so we were able to explore this topic for the K-12 group and beyond. We have teachers that are walking through those challenges right now and they are very real challeges, especially in the areas of budgets and professional development. We also had teachers that are outside of this group and it expanded our considerations for research. One thing that is consistent is the educators defence of the students. We are always seeking opprtunities to help them succeed and, in using AI as a tool, we can offer more ways to do this but, as you pointed out, we need it to occur in a reasonable manner.
The very foundation of this course is to propose ventures in the educational field. We are having the conversations that are idenifying our needs, as educators. One common theme is that we need to limit the choices and knit them together in a manner that makes them helpful instead of more demands on already overextended teachers and limited budgets. I was pleased to see how many of the new options are tools that offer connectivity. One down side is we need to ensure that they protect student privacy well enough to be trusted with that much information. As for the budget side, the costs are becomming more suitable to the structures of annual budgets rather than large capital projects (e.g. subscriptions). The down sides are that the increaing demands on hardware infrastructure are increasing the costs of items (e.g. computer components) so this is making it even harder to provide the equipment to the students and the costs of upgrading existing equipment seem to be neverending as technology providers are often making equipment obsolete instead of just less effective (e.g. must have the compute capacity to run the software upgrade).
It is a complicated topic that is likely years away from becoming truly mainstream.
Nice work. I found your comparison of traditional emphasis and emerging emphasis particularly useful.
With respect to how educators can shape technology’s role in learning, the most important thing is giving students a context that extends outside the classroom. When asked about recent cuts to funding for post-secondary students, Ontario’s premier said, “A lot of the students, you know, you are picking basket-weaving courses and there are not too many baskets being sold out there.” The implication being that the liberal arts, social sciences, and humanities don’t provide useful skills to grads. A few years earlier, the same premier encouraged young people to learn coding as a path to getting good jobs. Right now tech companies are reducing the number of coders they employ and increasing the number of arts grads, particularly philosophers, because they’re discovering the value of breadth, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
I think that the most important thing teachers can do is give their students a sense of history so that they understand why this year’s hot job or new technology likely won’t be by the time they graduate. Every job is problem solving of one sort or another, so whatever technology is available at that given moment, the student’s task is to use that technology in a way that preserves their agency and enhances their judgment and problem solving skills.

When looking to funding, the landscape is changing. You are correct in the push for more coders but then the shift away from that. I also took the ethics class this summer and you may find it interesting too.
We are heading, at lightning speed, into a whole new world of AI. Recenctly, Sam Altman (of OpenAI) expressed his opinion that, if AI replaces him as CEO, then it would be a sign of succeess.
I was also at the Global Scrum Conference in May. I met many questioning the same issues on the employability of coders. I even met some that were struggling to find work as they were apparetly in a large crowd of appllicants for every job opening. The consistent message is that humans are still required in areas that require empathy and the true understanding of what that means. In essence, its in our fragility, potential to break, that we prvide the true scope of best practices for the future of AI.

I’m just getting into your OER, but two things stood out to me early in the experience. First, I really like the amount of information you have communicated visually, particularly in the Current Challenges Facing Educators section. Some of the text within the individual graphic cards is difficult to read. It might be helpful to make those visuals clickable or expandable. AI can help us create really rich visual content, but this also made me think about how we design for the way learners actually consume that content and ensure the information remains accessible.
I also found the placement of the Seeing Students Sooner survey confusing. It appears at the bottom of both The Educator Renaissance: Why Now? and Seeing Students Sooner. I completed it on the earlier page and then realized, once I reached the later section, that the questions made much more sense after working through that content. These are just my first observations as I continue through the OER.

Thank you for a great read. Your OER brought together many of the ideas we’ve explored throughout ETEC 522. The vision of moving from isolated EdTech tools toward connected learning ecosystems is something I have been thinking about all year, particularly if it reduces fragmentation and allows teachers to spend less time managing technology and more time working with students.
What really stood out to me, though, is that the greatest opportunity may also be the greatest responsibility. Connected ecosystems depend on connected data, and whoever owns and governs that data will increasingly shape the future of education. As AI becomes more contextual and personalized, transparency, interoperability, privacy, and teacher agency become just as important as the quality of the technology itself.
Working through your OER also reinforced a broader trend I’ve been noticing beyond education. Across industries, AI is evolving from standalone offerings toward systems that understand organizational context. Healthcare is moving in this direction with ambient documentation platforms like Tali AI, while business platforms such as HubSpot and QuickBooks are embedding AI directly into their existing ecosystems rather than offering separate chatbots. The real competitive advantage for EdTech may no longer be having the best AI model, but building connected ecosystems where AI understands professional context, including curriculum, assessment, planning, and learning evidence.
As someone teaching Junior Kindergarten, I don’t foresee AI replacing educators. If anything, it raises the value of professional judgment. AI may become remarkably good at identifying patterns and surfacing evidence, but it still cannot understand the relationships, emotions, and lived experiences that shape how people learn.

I really enjoyed your OER, and I think it was a wonderful final topic for our course. I think you did a great job of identifying how the role of the educator is evolving and where the future lies. The information is incredibly useful for all of us.
Your highlighting of the importance of seeing students sooner really stood out to me. In my own experience as a career educator, I know that early intervention makes such a huge difference at the post-secondary level, but I can imagine it is even more important in K-12. In my context, the challenge is often around motivation, but it is possible to catch up on applications or interview prep once the struggle is recognized and addressed. A K-12 student falling behind on core knowledge may face a much greater barrier, making AI-supported predictive analytics even more valuable. I can also see how a streamlined Educational Renaissance system could help teachers manage individual student learning. Having assessment, instruction, practice, and monitoring connected could reduce some of the administrative work involved in determining what a student needs and allow educators to spend more time responding to those needs. As others have mentioned, the potential benefit for teachers seems clear, but I also wonder how difficult it would be for schools and school boards to implement an integrated platform.
I also really appreciated your hierarchy of where a teaching task sits between Human and AI led. The specific examples you provided helped me to build that hierarchy in my head and think about where the real value of AI may lie.
This topic is a really interesting way to end the course because it brings together many of the overarching themes we have discussed throughout the semester: using AI where it adds value, keeping educators involved in decision-making, and using technology to support but not replace the work of educators.
I thought the overall flow of the module was natural and easy to follow. It gave enough background information, but also moved into practical ideas and strategies for how AI could actually be used in teaching. I was especially interested in the idea of ‘Seeing Students Sooner’. I think this is one of the areas where AI could really improve the teaching and learning feedback loop. Without real-time information about student performance, instructors are often reacting after a problem has already become obvious. A student may need to perform poorly several times before the instructor notices a pattern and provides additional support. By then, the learning gap may have already become very wide. With AI-assisted data analytics, instructors can track changes in student performance much earlier. This makes it possible to actually “see” students sooner and make adjustments before the problem becomes more serious. I think this could make classroom time more efficient as teaching strategies could be adjusted based on more immediate feedback instead of always playing the catchup.
One thing I think could be developed a bit more is how AI works as a copilot in the teaching process. For example, it could be presented as a simple pipeline per my understanding of the process: data –> interpretation –> professional goal –> AI/human support. Such flow could also make the venture idea more concrete by showing how the different AI functions work together in a real teaching workflow, making it more convincing that there is a substantial business case for implementation.
