A1 Echo Chambers and the Mobile Experience

Originally posted By julio palacios on October 11, 2019

Hi everyone. I decided to tackle the topic of echo chambers and the impact mobile technology has had on them. We have all experienced echo chambers both in an online and offline context. Echo chambers are impactful and affect the relationships we make, our outlook on life and our mobile experience.

I also focused some attention on echo chambers in an educational context. This resource is both PC and mobile friendly, but was designed for the mobile user.

My first thought is that this is an example of an A1 project that is worth reviewing. Secondly, my thoughts echo the comments written here.

Thank you for the excellent work. You have pointed out a major flaw of the social media. Social media uses algorithm to select what information will reach to the individual user based on the previous pattern. This poses challenges with confirmation bias. As educators, it is our responsibility to coach our learners to be critical thinkers and enable them to determine reliability of the information on social media. It is a difficult to teach critical thinking but as a start, we should encourage learners to keep an open mind to new experiences and information.

    Hi Julio,
This is an incredibly relevant topic to today’s online environment. It should remind everyone that we all need to examine the information we read with a discerning eye. Do the research. Google it. But again sometimes the keywords we end up typing into our search bars are biased to what we want to hear. Exposing oneself to opposing viewpoints and information is not easy to digest. Even if we find a neutral news source, we will interpret it with our own ideas with our confirmation biases pulling us back.
