Mobile Culture – Google Arts and Culture

I am fascinated by this mobile application.  It provides background information, history and stories behind famous art pieces.  Users can learn about the events that shaped our work and history.  You can take guided tours of famous museums.  The app is curated by experts from famous museums.  In virtual reality, you can create your own collections and share with your friends.

The reviews are very positive.  Most users commented the app is well designed and inspires them to learn more about history, culture and arts.

I believe this is a great example of how we can disseminate culture by using mobile technology.

When the pandemic took over the world this app and site was a great resource for my family to explore and use as a supplement for visiting museums, galleries and travel. It is also a great resource to share among family, friends, coworkers and students!

I would also recommend their youtube channel for more directed consumable culture content: https://www.youtube.com/c/googleartsculture/

I also tried out the website on my phone. The website https://artsandculture.google.com/ loads easily and the videos work well on my phone, the quality of the videos and sound were excellent. I can see how this can supplement lessons in the classroom. Students can see 3600 videos of dinosaurs in action, visit the Space Shuttle and experience culture in 360 degrees. Or use Street View to step into famous museums and see the Taj Mahal using your phone.
