Welcome to my Assignment 1 Analytical Publishing Project on Ghosting, a critical analysis of the emerging facet of open and mobile technology’s effects of digital avoidance as a cultural phenomenon and social trend which has become more rampant with convergent media usage. This Genial.ly-based infographic includes audio, external links, an interactive survey and a screencast which should be able to be viewed on most mobile devices.
The rationale for this project is three-fold. First, schools have never been historically successful facilitators of socioemotional events. Second, technological advents continue to challenge traditional discourse. Third, catharsis is important for anyone ghosted by friends or family members in addition to the hoards of individuals in online, working and dating worlds. I selected this topic for educational analysis as I am curious as to what prevents people from wanting to ameliorate communication about difficult situations through escape and evasion rather than confrontation of uncomfortable issues. As digitization has changed modes of dialogue, it is important to ascertain what communication behaviors are being normalized.
