Lesson Overview

This course is designed to provide the necessary skills for managers to conduct better interviews. The Learner will be able to discriminate between Credential, Technical, Experience, Opinion, Hypothetical and Behavioral Descriptive Interview questions to help determine the best questions to be used in the interview process. Behavioral Descriptive Type interview questions will be defined, described and implemented in an interactive online lesson.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course:

  • Learners will be able to identify and define Behavioral Descriptive Interview questions
  • Learners will recognize and differentiate between the various types of interview questions. Specifically the learner will be able to identify Experience, Hypothetical, Technical, Opinion and Behavioral Descriptive Interview type questions
  • Learners will be able to incorporate/integrate and adopt Behavioral Descriptive Interview questions into their own interviews and understand the logic behind incorporating these questions into the interview process

Purpose and Rationale:

  • Behavioral Descriptive Interview questions assist in identifying the right candidate for the right job
  • Behavioral Descriptive Interview questions assist in predicting future performance by examining past experiences
  • Assessing and determining the right candidate for the job benefits the organization by:
    • Cost savings in financial and human resources
    • Decreasing the emotional time and energy spent supporting individuals who do not have the right skills for the job
    • Identifying specific competencies that the organization is looking for
    • Attracting the top applicants in the field, thereby making the organization an attractive place to work
  • Assessing and determining the right candidate for the job benefits the individual by:
    • Identifying the right fit for the right job
    • Decreasing the emotional energy, time and stress spent by working in a job they are not qualified to do

Pre-requisite:

  • Presently a manager who is in charge of hiring staff
  • List of interview questions presently used
  • One job description of a position presently in the department
