LHall’s Introduction

This image was taken after a morning surf in Tofino, BC last summer. When asked to think of an image that ties into the course objectives, I immediately thought of this one. Looking specifically at the ties to technology, language and passion, I feel that this image encompasses not only my passions (nature, surfing, language and learning) but also many of the principles discussed so far in this program (anywhere, anytime learning and access to information).

My name is Laura Hall and this is my fourth course and first elective course in the MET program. I am taking this course in order to gain a better understanding of text technologies in education. Specifically, I hope to learn to use technology with a deepened understanding in the classroom to create a more engaged and practical setting for my students. I am an Elementary School teacher and I also work for a small project management company. It has always been my passion to find new and unique ways to communicate and share information with students of any age to help create a community of learning. Currently I work in the North Vancouver School District (#44) as a full-time, grade 7, Late French Immersion teacher. My part-time work is for Antares Project Services as their Executive Assistant, Website Developer and Technical Writer.

I look forward to working with you all over the next several weeks!

  1. Love the picture! It’s beautiful! Got to love all the places we get to work and how easy it is to learn anywhere!

  2. Welcome Laura, I didn’t know you could surf in BC! I guess I need to travel west and see all the great things out there.

  3. Hi everyone and thanks for the nice comments! I am really looking forward to working with you all over the next several weeks. And yes, Michael, you can surf in BC – there aren’t too many places but Tofino, BC is my most favourite place. Although the surf is sometime pretty flat, it is an amazing view/experience (in a wetsuit).

  4. Hi Laura,
    Beautiful image! Thank you for sharing it. The anytime anywhere philosophy improves access for learning for so many, I am often amazed at technology and the new connections it has helped me make. I look forward to working with you over the upcoming weeks!

  5. Hi Laura,

    Nice to see a familiar face! I love your picture; it looks so peaceful. I can’t wait to get out to BC to experience it for myself.

  7. Hi Laura;
    I got to visit Tofino once and it was too short a stay. Being a Maritimer, I couldn’t get enough of the ocean and the salt sea air.
    Looking forward to sharing a few great discussions with you this summer.
    Terry
