How much credit should the Printing Press get?

This was a particularly interesting assignment. To try and boil the impacts of a technology down to a mere ten minutes was quite difficult and then to turn this type of assignment into some sort of video was another challenge on top of this.

Traditionally this type of assignment would be something that would involve text rather than video and this was where the challenge presented itself for me. In the end I was somewhat pleased with the video itself but I’m not sure how engaging the video is and this was where I struggled as when I look to use video in education it needs to be engaging. I ended spending/wasting time to try and make the video flashy but realized that it needed to focus on learning first and that is where I defaulted to.

  1. Hi Chris,

I envy the natural ease with which you speak on the video! I feel like I sound as though I am reading a script whereas you have a more natural flow to your words! Good job!

One of the big discussions these days is how technology seems to be creating individuals who choose to interact with their technology rather than with other individuals. In our course, we discussed how the Bible seemed to be somewhat of a precursor to hypertext. To me, the invention of the printing press seems to also have been a precursor to this lack of interaction. You mentioned in your presentation that the printing press, and its ability to make books more available to the general public, allowed people to begin learning on their own, rather than through the interaction with others. Most definitely, we’ve always been heading in this direction of technology. There have no doubt been advantages and disadvantages to it all! Thanks for your video! 🙂
