About me

About the student & motivations for the project

I’m Ellika, a 4th year Geography (Environment & Sustainability) student at the University of British Columbia. This project was completed for my GEOB 370 – Advanced GIS class.

I am passionate about sustainability, and specifically interested in discovering how humans can co-exist more harmoniously with natural ecosystems. I have worked for Watershed Watch Salmon Society as their Outreach & Engagement Coordinator for the past 7 months, which has allowed me to begin to understand the intricacies of the human-salmon relationship. One of Watershed Watch’s main campaigns, Connected Waters, is promoting the development of Fish-Friendly infrastructure along the Lower Fraser River. I chose to conduct my GEOB 370 final project on identifying the top 10 priority sites of infrastructure for upgrade to “Fish-Friendly”, to help Watershed Watch focus their efforts towards the areas that could have the greatest benefit to salmon, and those that are economically feasible.
