Think you’ve seen it all at UBC? Well, if you’ve never been to the Pacific Museum of the Earth you are missing out on one of the coolest places on campus. That is, if you are a big nerd like me.
If you are a dinosaur fan, you can see a fantastic, and rare, Lambeousaurus (a weird omnivorous duck-billed dinosaur) skeleton just a short walk from Koerner at the Earth and Ocean Sciences — Main Building 6339 Stores Road. It’s open Mon-Fri 9-5 and admission is by donation. And if you have young kids, it is a nice family outing, not to mention a welcome break from the busy Space Centre.
There will also be plenty of events in early October to celebrate National Earth Science Week, for example:
October 13, 2007
Openhouse and Public Lecture
On Saturday, October 13th the UBC Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences and the Pacific Museum of the Earth invite you to celebrate National Earth Science Week with us.
A special museum openhouse not only includes guided tours of the museum’s permanent exhibits, but you will be able to participate in hands-on activities and demonstrations. Interesting and fun for the whole family.
Openhouse – 10:00am to 5:00pm
In the evening we will be hosting a talk and discussion on ‘The Science of Climate Change’ led by Dr. Phil Austin of the UBC Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences. Come to learn about the latest research and ask questions of a number of scientists actually involved in climate change studies.Talk begins at 5:30pm
