Design + Structure

Posted by in Uncategorized

Design in business, and my future:  Effective Design = efficient product + human centred product + simplicity. Design is not necessarily creative, rather it is observational. In an era where everything has, “been done” and novel ideas are difficult to come by design innovation is the mostly likely place to start when seeking to disrupt an industry. (http://www.creativityatwork.com/design-thinking-strategy-for-innovation/).   As I look towards my future career paths either in management consulting or venture capital I am thankful that I registered for COMM 388. The design method is human centred. Whether I…read more

Christmas Time!

Posted by in Uncategorized

Just to get into the holiday cheer, I wanted to share one of the classic Coca Cola commercials. This commercial was not only eye catching, but also highly engaging. The use of  animals, happy music, and the final cute moment between the polar bear and penguin made my heart melt just a little bit. Now whether or not watching this commercial on my laptop made me want to go drink a coke i’m not really sure about, however, I do recall recently seeing it in a movie theatre and could…read more

huh?

As I near the end of this blogging trek I thought I would go back to one of my interests, the fashion industry. This has got to be one of the best ads I have ever seen when it comes to portraying how silly plastic surgery really is.

Escalators!

Posted by in Uncategorized

A few posts back I wrote about different yet effective advertising locations, and I am happy to say I have found another location that I would have never thought of, an escalator! Whether it’s the Simpsons reminding you of their existence or a local hair dresser advertising their work, these caught my attention and would have caught my attention even more had I been standing on the escalator!

Positive PR by association

Posted by in Uncategorized

Similar to sponsoring a cause or an individual that then sheds a positive light on your company, associating your brand with a positive idea in one of your advertisements is also quite clever. In the Volkswagen commercial posted below there is very little emphasis on volkswagen itself rather a high emphasis on conserving energy and ultimately reducing your carbon footprint. I feel that by associating themselves with a commercial that ultimately encourages energy saving VW is really shedding a positive light on their brand image. And on a side note, I found…read more

Banned commercials, perhaps for a reason?

Posted by in Uncategorized

So I was reading my friends blog, Jackie’s blog, earlier today and came across her post on a banned Guinness commercial and how some of her friends viewed the add as sexist. Well, i’m sure Jackie will be happy to know that she is not the only woman out there who might now be desensitized to sexist comments. In fact, I found myself laughing from about halfway through that add! On another note however, I certainly understand why that add was banned, and all I can say is, at least it’s not as…read more

Cool new add location!

Posted by in Uncategorized

I just stumbled upon Lisa’s blog on bus advertisements and thought that the one with the watches was particularly neat. I never realized how many advertisement locations haven’t been exploited as of yet. I know that the airline company has taken advantage of advertising on the back of seats and all over the inside of planes, (Ryan Air), but can’t think of any other industries that have come up with cool new advertising locations. I’ve seen some pretty cool ads on the inside of toilet stalls but thats really it, any one see some cool locations…read more

Alienating the 2%… within the fashion world: lululemon groove pants

Posted by in Uncategorized

Earlier today Seth Godin blogged about the 2% of loyal customers that a company will hear from when a long-term product is inovated into a new model. (click here to read the  blog post) I recently found myself in this 2%, although, not because of to much innovation, but rather too little. lululemon finally listened to the 1000’s of product reviews it received about its groove pants the bottoms of the legs were simply to wide… so they changed them to make them more slim… well thats at least what they say….read more

An ad for a nation

Posted by in Uncategorized

This past February when Vancouver hosted the Olympics, I have to say that this was the greatest ad I saw. It isn’t a direct add for Bell, but rather an ad for Canada as a whole. It celebrates the achievements of Canadian athletes without ever directly saying Bell is better than Telus. All that this ad does is bring Canada together and portray Bell as a part of this positive message. In such a heated battle for market share between Telus and Bell, Bell chose, in my opinion, the correct way of…read more
