First Week Adventures 3 – Second Day and SUS Tea Party

September 8, 2016 (Day 2+SUS Tea Party)

Second day of school!! Here we goooo~

That morning I was still winded and tired from going through Wednesday (see First Week Adventures 2), but then again I didn’t even do that much, I just don’t bode as well in new environments as I want to, and I’ve accepted it at this point.

So off to class I went!!

The girl on the left in the featured photo (they only show up in my actual blog for some reason, not the UBC Blog Squad feed) is my biology lecture buddy for the term. She might not know it, but I am ever so grateful that she’s in the same class as me. It’s comforting to know that there are one or two people I know that can keep me company amongst the 200+ strangers I share lecture halls with. I’ll try with my mediocre socialising skills to get to know more people(hopefully, probably) soon, but for the first day, having a familiar face next to you is always appreciated.

We met up with another friend, (high school friends I love you) and off we trekked to the West Mall Swing Space, which is where my farthest lecture hall is. I learn later that I have made a mistake thinking that Swing isn’t THAT far away from the rest of my lecture halls (haaaaaaaa). As we get to the hallway outside our lecture hall 20 minutes early, once again, (see First Week Adventures 2), the hallways was already packed with students ready to fight the mob for good seats. I have seen students have to stand at the back and write with the wall as their table or sit on the walkways, so I guess showing up to lectures super early is pretty sensible.

We started class, and once again I met one of my profs for this term for the first time. So far I like all my profs for this term (knock on wood), and I hope it stays that way. For a group activity we used scratch cards, which was a thing I have never seen or used in the school setting before, so I thought that was pretty cool. We got a worksheet with multiple questions, and then we were to reach a consensus on each answer, and scratch that option square off on the scratch card. If we got the answer correct, there would be a little star(how exciting, but also super stressful)on the paper. We found out that the star isn’t always in the same location within the answer squares, sometimes they were smack in the middle other times they leaned closer to the border, and that honestly gave me anxiety(like all MC questions do). All in all, aside from the tiny star induced anxiety, I liked doing that activity. Soon after class was over, and I had to bolt out to get to my next lecture hall. I said by to my friends quickly, and booked it out the door.

I guess from now on my daily workout will include attempting to sprint up hills and down stairs like crazy to try to reach my lecture halls in time. Oh well.

After my classes were over for that day, my friends an I went to check out day 3 of SUS First Week. Wednesday’s theme was Tea Party, which meant it involved fooddddddd~

We went into the Abdul Ladha Building, and what welcomed us was a long table of desserts and treats.

20160908_123802There was David’s Tea too!!! I will always appreciate the presence of tea.

Aside from the food table(that was my lunch for the day), there were games you could play, like jumbo pick-up sticks, jumbo jenga, and jumbo cards. Basically all the games were jumbo versions of the original.

Outside, we found a large trailer in the middle of the plaza.

20160908_124150Turns out it was a petting zoo!! So that was cool.

And a little horse 😀

There was another booth near it, and turns out it was handing out free popcorn and cartons of milk.

Happy that I got to have afternoon tea and see a tiny adorable horse,(and soon remembering all my pre-readings much to my dismay…)the second day of uni came to an end.

Thank you SUS for the awesome First Week events!! (and ofc the food <3)

First Week Adventures to be continued… (last day!)
