‘League of Legends’ makes big league moves

In the recent years the eSports industry has seen significant growth with the introduction of a multiplayer online battle arena game called “League of Legends.” In just 5 years game became internationally recognized. Riot Games has a wide range of target customers, but they are successful because Riot has created a sense of community among its customers. They listen and give feedback to the opinions of individual players as well as constantly update the game accordingly. This way Riot was able to attract more and more players. Players continue playing because the game reflects the fundamental human nature of striving to be the best. Riot’s key activities are also crucial to its success. The game’s world championships was held in Staples Center in 2013, where NBA and NHL games are held. This sends the message that eSports is reaching the stage of professional sports leagues.  People who do not play the game may be drawn to it through watching the competitions or being pressured by the popularity of the game. Riot’s value proposition is to create a fair competitive game where players have plenty of room to improve and cannot buy game power with real currency. Overall their success can attributed to a well crafted business model canvas.

Apple bans toxic benzene, n-hexane from iPhone, iPad final assembly

Everyone knows the Apple products, but only few may know what really goes on in those Apple product manufacturing factories. There has been for a long time many discussions regarding the conditions the workers work under in those factories, many of them criticizing Apple for the poor working conditions. However in this article, Apple is on the positive side of the discussion, as Apple is banning the toxic chemicals, benzene and n-hexane, which are used in the final assembly of its products. Although these chemicals will still remain in the earlier assembly of the products, I understand that Apple cannot change all of its factory protocols at once. I think this action will make Apple stand out from its competitors because many other companies still use these chemicals. This way Apple will gain more support from the public, who can now purchase Apple products knowing the workers’ conditions are a little better. The announcement of the ban is also well timed, because about a month from the date of the article, Apple announced the iPhone 6. Anticipation is already building up for the new product, a positive story such as this will allow Apple to gain more publicity.
