Nov.5: Countdown to Sort-Of-Potluck

This week on LFS 350: With just a week to go, tensions are high as Team 17 (now known as Team Adorable Cat Photos) scrambles to make their toolkit dreams into reality. But will they be able to power through and finish the toolkit, or will the irresistible call of adorable cat videos prove too much for the team? Is Donna going to forgive her evil twin sister for stealing her favourite otter? How will Ning break the news to his team that he’s now homeless? Will Derrick ever find a perfect pinecone? Find out next week on Team Adorable Cat Photos: The Television Epic.

But seriously, we have about a week to finish our Herb Garden Toolkit and present it at the sort-of-Potluck-but-more-like-a-Food-Demonstration-now event.

Here’s what’s happening:

Team Guys has locked in authors for each section of their part of the toolkit (Setting Up a Garden) and plan to finish by Wednesday for evaluation by the group. Currently, we’re still looking up businesses that build boxes, the cost of DIY raised beds, and herb growing tips. Signage is completely up in the air, and although we hope to get mock signs (or even real template signs), the fact remains that we are plant scientists, global resource managers, and nutritionists, not graphic designers. But gosh aren’t we pretty, so who cares.

Team Girls Strong Independent Young Women are busy researching and writing management strategies for their side of a toolkit (Managing a Garden). As well, they’re going to get in touch with someone at the City of Vancouver to discuss the logistics of Boulevard Gardening and permits and whatnot. Andrew still hasn’t emailed us the template land use agreement (I think…. Meagan hasn’t said anything) so that’s still up in the air.

Research has been temporarily suspended until we finish this toolkit, but data will get collected soon. Promise. Pinky swear.

Tune in next week for the conclusion of our thrilling adventure! Or… or the tantalizing prequel of the conclusion which is pretty awesome but doesn’t deliver the satisfying resolution that the audience deserves because the potluck isn’t until next next Tuesday.
