UBC PAW’s 5th annual Animal Welfare Conference has an exciting speaker lineup. AWC serves the purpose of providing animal welfare education for those wishing to learn more about animals in agriculture, research, zoos and aquariums, and more.
This year’s theme is based on animals in entertainment and the ethical complexities around the recreational use of animals in captivity. With five incredible presentations from experts in animal welfare, this conference is the perfect opportunity for anybody to learn more about the recreational use of animals, the moral complexities associated with this area, and the advocacy work being done.

Promoting Food Security in Higher Education: Virtual Conference Series
The Promoting Food Security in Higher Education conference is a unique opportunity to explore links between campus and community-based efforts to change local food environments and build community-wide food security. Sessions will explore research, affordability, Indigenous food sovereignty, student leadership and food service experiences to catalyze our campus communities for whole systems change.

xWc̓ic̓əsəm Indigenous land-based Summer Internship at UBC Farm
INDIGENOUS UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE (IURE) AT XWC̓IC̓ƏSƏM GARDEN, UBC FARM
IURE is based at xʷc̓ic̓əsəm Garden at UBC Farm and collectively led by a group of Indigenous Elders, knowledge keepers, community members, students, and Indigenous Faculty. Interns participate in on-going research projects with faculty, graduate students, and community members. They participate in planning, designing, implementing pilot-scale research projects, and assist in data collection using qualitative and quantitative methods and Indigenous methodologies. Students learn about Indigenous research, frameworks, research methodologies, land-based pedagogies, research ethics, and Indigenous Community protocols for reciprocal and productive community engagement.

West Vancouver Foundation Scholarship
This year the West Vancouver Foundation is offering the Hartvikson Memorial Scholarship in Memory of Lourdes Llamzon to be awarded to an individual enrolling in a post-secondary institution in Canada studying sustainable agriculture and food systems.
