PAW (Pre-Veterinary and Animal Welfare) UBC
The UBC Pre-Veterinary and Animal Welfare Club is open to any who adores animals and desires to better the lives of animals. We hold information sessions on volunteer opportunities or internships for students interested in becoming veterinarians or working in animal welfare. We also have tours of animal health related facilities such as the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre or Marine Mammal Rescue, and fundraisers for animal related organizations. Most importantly, we hold many information sessions on potential veterinary schools from all over the world! If you are an animal-lover, this is the club for you!

Campus Canines UBC
Campus Canines UBC is a group of collegiate scholars dedicated to fundraising, educating, and raising life-changing assistance dogs with PADS, while also actively advocating for accessibility on campus. This club was founded in May of 2021, having officially launched on UBC campus in September 2021. In just our first year at UBC we have already welcomed over 70 new members to our club, and 5 PADS puppies-in-training to UBC campus with our student Puppy-Raisers! As Campus Canines UBC continues to grow we hope to further support the important mission of PADS through our dedicated volunteers, Puppy-Raisers and Puppy-Sitters, educational events, and fundraising events.

The Wildlife Society (TWS) – UBC Vancouver Chapter
The Wildlife Society (TWS) is an international, nonprofit organization of wildlife professionals and students dedicated to scientifically-informed wildlife education and conservation. TWS has worked to improve wildlife conservation by advancing the science of wildlife management, promoting continuing education of wildlife professionals, and advocating for sound, science-based wildlife policy.

As the UBC Vancouver Student Chapter, we hope to engage in educational, informative and exciting activities such as field trips, discussions, wildlife training programs and volunteer projects with local NGOs.

UBC Equestrian Club (UBCEC)
UBC Equestrian Club is a club for anyone who likes horses or/and is interested in riding. No experience is needed. We organize events such as trail rides, social night outs, dinners, and even mounted combat! We can also help you find horse riding lessons near UBC no matter how much experience you have or what your budget is. Whether you just moved here and want to find a new place to ride, or you have always wanted to get on a horse but haven’t had the chance… UBC Equestrian Club welcomes you. We are super excited to keep supporting our team this year, as well as meeting new people joining the UBC horse community!

Sustainable Agriculture and Environment (SAGE)

Roots on the Roof (ROTR)
We are a 100% student-run club that manages the rooftop garden space and the community garden plots on the roof of the AMS Student Nest, the Student Union Building at the University of British Columbia. Founded in 2014, we are focused on creating community-minded experiences and opportunities for personal empowerment that also incorporate concepts of food justice and food security. We facilitate student and community capacity around food by producing food as sustainably as possible, and by hosting events and workshops that encourage interactions around food, culture, health, and sustainability. By engaging with UBC’s diverse community, we hope to provide an avenue for knowledge sharing that enables dynamic ways to approach food system issues.

UBC Agronomy Garden
The Agronomy Garden is a student-run community garden at the corner of Main Mall and Agronomy Road at the UBC Vancouver campus. It is situated on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral lands of the Musqueam people. This place serves as much more than just a site for food production. The purpose of the garden is to showcase a model for environmental and social stewardship through plants and food. Plants and food are what bring us together, but what we aim to cultivate is community, and ideas for thinking about the food system differently. The Agronomy Garden, as one that is visible and centrally located, also serves as an invitation point for all students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage in the UBC Food System. We believe that there is enormous opportunity for innovation by getting everybody involved.

Land and Food Systems Undergraduate Society (LFSUS)

Land and Food Systems Undergraduate Society (LFSUS)
The Land and Food Systems Undergraduate Society (LFS|US) is composed of undergraduate students who are active members of the AMS and registered in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. We are committed to building a sense of community within LFS. Our job is to organize activities for the student body; ensure that we, as a Faculty, are represented in University affairs; and ensure student voices are heard in Faculty affairs.

Agora Café
Agora Café (formerly known as Roots) was first opened and operated by UBC Food Services in the H.R. MacMillan building, home of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS). After UBC Food Services abandoned the site in 2004, the Food Nutrition and Health Student Committee requested permission to use the space to sell baked goods and lunches. In September of 2005, Ashley Wan, a dietetics student, created and organized the very beginnings of Agora as a student volunteer-run café. Since that time, Agora has firmly established itself as an integral part of the LFS community and continues to expand its volunteer base to students in other faculties across the UBC campus. Agora is an innovative café that embraces UBC’s movement towards sustainability and food security, while simultaneously providing meaningful experiences for its volunteers.

UBC Sprouts
Sprouts is a 100% volunteer and student-run organization at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Through our many initiatives, we endeavor to make healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food accessible to everyone on campus. We are based out of Sprouts Cafe in the basement of the Life Building. With rising food insecurity on campus, we have dedicated ourselves to making our high-quality food and produce available to all through our community fridge and free meal distribution. Learn more about many initiatives and volunteer opportunities on our website!

Freedge for Fuel (F4F)
According to the 2019 AMS Undergraduate Experience Survey, 38.5% of undergraduate respondents at the UBC Vancouver Campus experience food insecurity. Having access to adequate food and nutrition is a fundamental need for student health and plays a critical role in supporting student performance. Freedge for Fuel aims to provide a mutual-aid solution by establishing community fridges (‘Freedge’) across the UBC Vancouver Campus. The program is student-led and driven by the core manifesto of “take what they need and give what they can.” The project aims to relieve immediate needs of UBC students facing food insecurity, promote awareness of student food insecurity, and advocate for food justice and sustainability in the community.

Feed Forward UBC
Hunger is scary! Stats show that one in eight households experience food insecurity and that concerns about economic access to adequate food are increasing. There are millions of people out there suffering with food insecurity. UBC Feed Forward is an organization working towards promoting and establishing food security in the community. We tackle food insecurity with initiatives aimed at ending hunger and providing safe, affordable, and accessible food for all. We create campus policies that provoke change, organize fundraising events, and spread awareness. Time to feed social change!

The Student Environment Centre (SEC) is a resource group mandated by the University of British Columbia Alma Mater Society (UBC AMS) to provide environmental and sustainability resources for the UBC community. We are actively involved in organizing, promoting, and supporting various initiatives that critically examine the interactions between humans and the environment. We organize a number of workshops and discussion sessions promoting environmental awareness throughout the year. Some of the resources we offer include funding, volunteers, and event promotion for projects that address environmental and sustainability issues. If you have an idea for an environmental event or program, you can apply to SEC for funding. We support many local grassroots initiatives, and would love to hear your idea.

UBC Sustainability
At UBC, our goal is to lead globally and locally in sustainability and wellbeing across our campuses and communities. How? By going beyond minimizing harm to become net positive contributors to human and environmental wellbeing. In 1990, UBC signed the Talloires Declaration, a 10-point action plan for incorporating sustainability into higher education. We were the first university in Canada to adopt a sustainable development policy in 1997, and the first to open an office devoted to campus sustainability in 1998. Now, sustainability is deeply embedded across UBC, thanks to the dedication and commitment of our faculty, staff, and students.
