Position Description
Student Research Consultant – Agricultural Technology
This is a client-facing student research consulting role. The student will work in collaboration with the student research team on conducting secondary source research investigating possible applications and benefits of a client’s agricultural technology. The student will work with company founders and CEO to help steer the direction of further primary research on the application of their agricultural technology. The student will have the opportunity to develop consulting skills while furthering their professional network.

Responsibilities (subject to change)
● Secondary source research
● Critical appraisal of research methodology
● Research proposal development
● Presentation of research results and recommendations with clients
● Support research needs of design team

A strong applicant will display the following
● A strong interest in agricultural consulting
● Prior research experience or consulting experience (an asset)
● Currently studying agriculture, plant and soil sciences or related fields
● A high level of ambition, with a ‘self-starter’ attitude
● Proficiency in Powerpoint, Google docs, and Microsoft Teams
● Fluency in spoken and written English with strong professional communication skills

BC SPCA Annual Wildlife Photography Contest

The BC SPCA’s annual Wildlife-In-Focus photography contest runs annually in July. We need a small team of dedicated volunteers to make this contest a success. Do you love B.C.’s diverse wildlife? Are you passionate about wild animals and urban wildlife? If you are self-motivated, organized and enthusiastic, we are looking for you!
The Volunteer Contest Coordinator requires a commitment of approximately two to six hours per week for the duration of the contest and includes such tasks as managing and labelling photo contest entries, and daily checking and response to contest emails. There will also be some required commitments in advance of the contest opening and after the conclusion of the contest. Volunteers should expect the position to last from mid-June through mid-August, with most hours occurring in the month of July.
You will be making a difference for wild animals by helping us raise funds for injured and orphaned wildlife in need at BC SPCA’s Wild ARC.
Knowledge or skills in photography and wildlife ID (birds and mammals in B.C.) is an asset, but not required.

2022 International Farm Animal Welfare Fellowship

Applications have officially opened for the 2022 International Farm Animal Welfare Fellowship!

Our fellowship includes a curated 3 months online program from May to August 2022, followed by continued community support. We hope to unite and support individuals with a shared passion for improving the welfare of farm animals in China. We believe that a multidisciplinary approach is needed to achieve this, and therefore welcome and encourage individuals with diverse backgrounds and approaches to apply.

The fellowship will feature interactions with notable figures including Professor David Fraser (University of British Columbia), Jian Yi (Good Food Fund), Professor Guo Peng (Shandong University), Paul Littlefair (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Pearl Zhang (International Cooperation Committee of Animal Welfare), Lisa Yang (Global Food Partners), Dr Xiong Chuanwu (Integrated Quality Consulting), Ziya Huang (Tianxia Academy), Professor Qian Yefang (Zhongnan University of Economics and Law), Jonathon Tree (Environmental and Animal Society of Taiwan), Jeff Zhou (Compassion in World Farming), and more.
