Environmental Youth Alliance looking for volunteers – application due Sept 7

Environmental Youth Alliance (EYA) is looking for volunteers for their Growing Kids Program. Volunteers will work regularly with elementary or high school to help teachers and students develop and maintain their outdoor classroom and/or garden club.

UBC MD/PhD Program Open House – Sept 6

Are you interested in the UBC MD or PhD program? You are invited to their research forum and open house on Friday, September 6 from 2-5pm. Registration is not require. Prospective applicants are welcome to attend the full event or any of the sessions.

2013 UBC President’s Town Hall

Each year the President’s Town Halls bring UBC faculty, staff and students together for an interactive dialogue.

This year, the conversation begins at the Town Halls as UBC student-elected Board of Governors members bring opening remarks on behalf of the UBC Board of Governors.

After this, Peter Klein, Director and Professor, Graduate School of Journalism (Vancouver), and Christopher Schneider, Assistant Professor, Sociology, Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences (Okanagan), will join Prof. Stephen J. Toope for a thought-provoking interview.

Then the UBC community will have a chance to ask senior administration any questions they may have.

Undergraduate Research Assistant opportunities (4) – due Sept 10

Integrated Studies in Land & Food Systems is looking for 4 undergraduate research assistants to assist with crop and manure nutrient sampling and crop yield sampling during Term 1. The tasks involved include fieldwork on farms within the Lower Fraser Valley and limited analyses in the soils lab in MCML. Vancouver School Board Looking for LFS students for Internships

The Vancouver School Board’s West 1 Community Schools Team is recruiting LFS students interested in developing and delivering their own 7-week after-school food and nutrition/ cooking programs for school-aged children at a number of Westside elementary schools this 2013-14 school year.  This is a fantastic and rewarding opportunity to develop project management experience as well as skills in lesson planning, time management, budgeting, child development, etc. The time commitment is 3 hours per week for 7 weeks.
