Finished First Year and Some Things I Learned

My first year at UBC went by REALLY quickly it’s kind of sad. I can’t believe it’s over already, it feels like just yesterday I was at Imagine Day. But I’m super happy that SUMMER IS HERE

Here is a list of a few of things I’ve learned this year:

Try to get stuff done on the bus if you have a long commute
Reading, studying, checking emails and social media, or just sleeping (maybe even eating) is a great way to put your time to use. But if you don’t feel like doing anything school related just relax and use that time as mental break because your mental well-being is important.

Ensure your backpack is as light as possible
Walking around with a heavy backpack all day sucks. I once purchased 3 textbooks in one day and forgot to bring a reusable shopping bag to carry them. So I had to put them all in my backpack and suffered from back pain for a week. If possible, try to carry as little as possible in your backpack or bring a reusable shopping bag to carry some stuff in. Avoid things like heavy binders and if you’re looking for a new laptop try to find one that is lightweight if you have the option.

Bring snacks if you have a long day
Snacks can help you stay awake in class and you won’t be distracted by your growling stomach.

Wear comfortable shoes
If you know you’ll be doing lots of walking on campus (very common)  try to find shoes with good support that won’t hurt your feet when walking long distances. It’s extremely beneficial to have comfy shoes when you’re running late for class and trying to speed walk.
