Community Field Experience

My community field experience took place at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster, BC. I worked closely with the arts programmer to develop and pilot a school workshop in coordination with the New Media Gallery, located in the Anvil Centre. The goal of the workshop was to give students a better understanding of conceptual art, as well as time to work in response to the exhibit “POPart” at the New Media Gallery. Force and Motion

After an introduction to Sir Isaac Newton, gravity and the laws of motion, the grade one students and I took to the basketball court. We used a stick, two chairs, a string and a cup with a hole in it to see force and motion in action! We experimented pendulum art, using force, motion, viscosity, gravity, and of course a lot of fun in the process.

Art in Nature

After previewing and discussing the works of Andy Goldsworthy my students were given an opportunity to respond to his environmental art in our own forest at the school. Students learned about and were allowed to pick any of the invasive species as well as use any of the found materials to create their art piece.
