Observe

Working in your group of four, on each pair of computers open the GeoGebra software package located in the program file of your computer.  If needed download Geogebra.

1.    On a blank page with no axis reproduce diagram 1 from the Starting with Transversals worksheet used in the Predict page.

2.     Manipulate the transversal so that angle 1 is 40 degrees.  Use the software to determine the value(s) of all the other angles.

3.    Compare your results with the other pair in your group.  Use your previous skills to explain why some angles are the same in both instances, while others may not be the same in all instances.

4.     Use another blank page to reproduce diagram 2 from the Starting with Transversals worksheet.  Use the software to ensure the non-transversal lines are parallel, and that angle 1 is again 40 degrees.

5.   Use the software to determine the value(s) of all the angles.  Explain why all the angles from each computer are equal.

6.   When parallel lines are intersected by a transversal, three pairs of angles are formed that are either congruent (equal) or supplementary.  Identify these pairs of angles.  Compare your findings with your group members.

7.   Diagram your results/ideas on your group Vocabulary document, including diagrams.

As a group, watch the following video

Were these the three pairs of angles your group identified with parallel lines?

Add or revise this new vocabulary and information in your group Vocabulary document.
