Predict

Before we can continue with our exploration of parallel lines, we will need a definition of the word “transversal”

Part A

1.    In your group, predict what the word transversal might mean.  Be prepared to justify your definition.

2.   Determine a definition for “transversal” from a geometric view point.  Google might be a place to start.

3.     Add your group definition of transversal to your Vocabulary document.  Include a diagram.

Part B

1.   Print one Starting with Transversals worksheet for your group.  Label the transversal in each diagram.

2.     In each of the diagrams, the angles 1, 2, 7, & 8 are called exterior angles.  Predict the name given to angles 3, 4, 5,& 6.   Put these new names on each diagram.

3.  In both diagrams the value of angle 1 is 40 degrees.  Predict the value of all the other angles in each diagram.  Justify your answer with your group members.

4.    What do you think the arrows on the two lines in diagram 2 indicate?

5.    Using a diagram, add these two new angle names to your Vocabulary document.
