Despite the heavy geographical restrictions, for those in the right place and with ample money to spare, owning a domestic fox is a potential reality. Mitchel Kalmanson imports domestic foxes from the Russian Institute of Cytology and Genetics to the United States. For $8900, a fox is picked up from the research facility and flown to Florida – accompanied by Kalmanson – for his or her new owner. Anya the red fox was the first domestic fox to be brought to the United States, adopted by Kay Fedewa – she arrived in 2012, and has been followed by several others, including Arsi, Dante, and Prada (Lester Kalmanson Agency Inc., n.d.).
