Biography

Hello everyone!

My name is Razvan Nesiu, and I’m a third-year student at UBC (Vancouver campus). I did my high school in the city of Timisoara, Romania. The high school I attended is called “Grigore Moisil”, which is the name of a great Romanian mathematician. It has only one stream of studies: computer science and mathematics, hence its name. After I finished high school, I decided to study abroad, at a university that is ranked higher than the universities from my home country. There were plenty of options for me, but I ended up choosing Canada because I have some family here, and it is always good to have the support of family. Hence I came to Canada in 2014 and I started studying General Science at Langara College. After two years spent at Langara College, I transferred to UBC to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science under the Faculty of Science. My passion for computer science, specifically the software construction side of computer science, started in high school. Since then, programming became an important part of my life. I started to learn about C++ in the beginning, and then when I came to Canada I learned new languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, and many other languages taught in UBC nowadays. My favorite language is Java because one can build mobile applications for Android Operating System using it. In fact, the subject that interests me the most is Software Engineering, and my focus is mobile applications development. I prefer to build applications using platform-specific tools such as Android Studio or XCode. These are programs that help developers to build applications. My passion for mobile development springs mostly from the fact that mobile applications are relatively easy to use by users and they have a great impact on society nowadays. For instance, almost every company, be it a software company or not, owns a mobile application.
