Launch your course

Please ensure your syllabus is uploaded in PDF format to the Syllabus link within your course. For step-by-step instructions, refer to the Add Instructor Info & Syllabus page. Next, begin adding course content and assignments, and don’t forget to help students get to know you by uploading your profile photo to Canvas.

Make sure your Grade Posting Policy is set to “Manual” so that grades remain hidden from students by default. To make your course is visible to students, click the “Publish” button on your Course Home screen. This will ensure your course is accessible on the official term start date, as identified by UBC’s Academic Calendar. If you’d like to make the course available earlier, follow the screenshot instructions at the bottom of the Publish Your Course page.

Instructors teaching BCOM courses should refer to the Publish Your Course page for specific publishing steps. For RHL Graduate courses, the course dates are already set—simply press the “Publish” button to make your course available to students.

Please note, even if you publish your course early, it will not become visible to students until 12:00 AM on the Term start date, unless you customize the start date within Settings. If your course is not published, students will see it listed under their future courses but won’t be able to access it. Once your course is published, you can send an introductory announcement to welcome your students.
