I decided to study some of the front stairs and porches of my neighbourhood. I attempted to define them by some of the same criteria I use in assignment 7, movement. This includes:
are they clear of debris?
slippery?
how sturdy are the hand rails?
Are they comfortable and uninterrupted?
Is there a resting place at the top?
Are they accessible? Truly accessible?
I created an agglomeration of the stairs that I studied. This one has a continuous handrail that fits comfortably in the hand and is non-slip. It has a landing pad porch, which could be an outdoor room (especially during the pandemic). The ramp is also thoughtfully considered rather as part of the initial design, rather than an afterthought or addition to the system (please pretend the sloped are acceptable hah).
