GEOG 379 is a field school course offered by the University of British Columbia. The primary objective of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to apply academic knowledge gained in the classroom to community development projects in BC. This course emphasizes on mutual benefit between the student and the community by following the community-based model of experiential learning. Students will collaborate with local community organizations in BC to design and conduct a research project that will address a need identified by the community partner. Students will have the opportunity to focus on issues regarding intercultural understanding, community engagement, and economic, social and environmental sustainability.
This field school course runs from January to April 2016, and will conclude with a one week site visit to Williams Lake in May. More information about Williams Lake can be found under the About tab. More information about this course can be found here and here.
