Dr. Ruben Puentedura explains how teachers can apply the SAMR Model to evolve their practice. Education technology can be used in a myriad of ways; however, teachers must first feel comfortable with the tools. These tools can be used to enhance current practice and move forward from substitution to augmentation, modification, and finally redefinition within the framework. Moving from enhancement to transformation allows for students to interact with one another, become peer mentors, think more deeply, and take charge of their education. Dr. Puentedura’s model allows teachers to determine the best possible ways for technology to be used to accomplish goals. The SAMR Model should be considered by teachers prior to lesson planning across disciplines.
