LaFave, N. (2016, March 13). Monitoring Environmental Change with iPads. Retrieved from http://edtechpicks.org/2016/03/technology-in-outdoor-education/

In this post on Tech Tools for Busy Teachers, LaFave outlines how technology can be used in outdoor education in order to build a “hybrid mind with nature and technology.”  His free, downloadable ebook outlines how to do this with a project on monitoring environmental change using iPads.  He explains how this is an engaging way to bring students into the outdoor classroom to connect with nature.  This incorporates technology and nature, while exploring innovative ways to use technology to explore science and transform observations into meaningful data.  Although the author is an educator in the U.S, he discusses the benefits to students and the skills they are developing through these activities, which are in line with the Core Competencies of BC’s curriculum.  One thing to consider, is that the author is an ‘Apple Distinguished Educator,’ so he is promoting the company he works for when promoting iPads as a tool for learning.
