Arts Career Expo: Whose with me!?
Jan 8th, 2009 by Miranda
I have yet to venture to this so-called Expo. (What is an expo anyways? What is it short for? Please fill me in as I feel this is “ought-to-know” information). But I am going this year.
What do I expect? Well, I am hoping I can make some career connections, do some networking, but I have no clue is this is something that happens at these “Expo’s”. If you have been, can you please tell me? I really don’t have that many evenings to be throwing around like that so I would rather not go if it’s going to be a waste of time. If no one knows ANYTHING, I am going to assume that A) Maybe the Arts Career Expo ought to do a little more advertising and B) That maybe I can be the “reporter” for this event.
In any case, I will let you know.
Hmmmm. Exposition, maybe?
One sec, I’ll check Wikipedia.

Ok, it is short for exposition. And can also be called “World Fair” though in this case I don’t think that is entirely accurate.
I love wikipedia.
Hi Miranda
Can we take you up on your offer? I’m with the Arts Expo organizing committee and we’d love to have you as one of our blog reporters for the event.
And yes – there’s lots of networking and career connections that happen at EXPO. Between 5:30 and 7:30 everyone chooses to attend two, 50 minute alumni discussion panels. (There are 11 to choose from). Then from 7:30-8:30 all students and alum congregate together at the SUB ballroom for great food, networking etc.
Drop me a line and we’ll set you up with a “special guest pass”

Great post, Miranda!
This career event provides all Arts students with an opportunity to hear answers to career questions, and many more, from Arts Alumni who have transformed their degree into a wide range of successful and rewarding careers. The audience will be Arts undergraduate students, all years, all majors in various stages of career certainty or uncertainty.
Get the answers to those tricky questions you can get from a website or book you may have about your field of interest, right from the source!
As co-chair for the Arts Career Expo, I am proud to announce we will be highlighting 38 diverse and successful UBC alumni throughout 11 panels on a wide variety of career options related to Arts degrees.
You can sign up for 2 panels and wrap up the night at our Mix and Mingle.
Check out our website for further details on who the panelists are, what the panels are and location info, etc.
Its sure to be an informative and exciting evening! Stick around for the mix and mingle in the SUB ballroom where you can enjoy tasty appies and refreshing beverages and get a chance to talk personally with the alumni, recognizeable by their purple lei’s- network!
I hope to see you there and I promise not to disappoint!
