Learning English is necessary in the modern world, whether to adapt this competitive society or for the job positions. In terms of the differences between learning English as a child and an adult, there are several points to mention.

Firstly, In the aspect of reading books, children pay more attention to the visual image, while adults would prefer to acquire literature knowledge. It is obvious that in children’s books, there are lots of pictures with abundant colors, which can attract children’s attention and arouse their interests.

Secondly, for remembering English, children are able to remember it by reading aloud or playing games. However, for adults, they are used to figuring out the grammar used or sentences meaning in order to strengthen their awareness of English.

Thirdly, the ability for adults or children to learn English is quite different. Due to the lack of language experience, children are able to accept new knowledge easily. Though, for adults, If the English is the second Language for them, they will always remind of their first language. Thus, It is more likely for adults to mix them up.

Therefore, the main differences are dependent on their abilities to learn, the ways to memorize English as well as the methods to master new language.

I like how you addressed both sides of the topic. Learning languages is very different for adults and children in terms of background knowledge. Are there any similarities in language learning that you can think of?
