Discussion and Future Considerations

The City of Vancouver’s insufficient public washroom infrastructure shows a clear need for more public washrooms. Beyond the creation of new washrooms, all the facilities in the city must be made accessible to people with all types of physical abilities. Although the 2020 Vancouver Parks Washroom Strategy outlines a plan to implement more public washrooms in parks, it does not address the need for public washrooms in the rest of the city, as demonstrated in the project. It is important to note that the creation and upkeep of public washrooms in expensive, but these locations are purely potential suggestions. Further research should examine the volume of pedestrian and cyclist traffic in areas of the city, to better determine the areas with the most need. Finally, research should also be conducted to determine if there is a correlation between demographic data and the provision of public washrooms in nearby areas.
