I Am Smarter Than The Internet (And I Hope You Are Smarter Than Me)

I have a riddle for you.

Google Transit and UK travel forums agree that it is physically impossible to get from Cardiff to Tintagel Castle in less than four bus transfers (generally five).

This is a lie. The secret is to overshoot Tintagel by about forty minutes. If you take the National Express bus from Cardiff to Wadebridge, you can then work your way back north on the local Bus 95 and get dropped off practically at the castle gates.

Is there a catch? Yes. There is no way to get into Wadebridge before 6:00 and the last Bus 95 leaves Wadebridge at 5:30.

Here’s where I twisted myself into a Celtic knot. Riddle me this:

-I have Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday free. (My next class is Wednesday at 9 a.m.)

-The earliest possible National Express bus gets me into Wadebridge at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

-Bus 95 doesn’t run on Sunday, so the next Bus 95 is Monday morning…

…and Tintagel is closed on Monday.

-I could stay in Wadebridge overnight and do the 16-mile half-day hike along the striking coastal cliffs to Tintagel the next morning. This would probably get me to Tintagel midafternoon on Sunday…

…and Tintagel closes at 5 on Sunday. And is closed on Monday.

Anybody who solves this riddle for me will win an inbox full of Tintagel pictures.
