I apologize for not doing anything egregiously stupid lately other than losing my bat skull zipper pull. In lieu of amusing commentary, here are some more Cardiff pictures.
Here’s Pettigrew Tea Room, which is in the old Victorian gatehouse at one end of Bute Park. If I wasn’t a.) broke and b.) pathetically alone, I’d have tea there some weekend.
Here’s the Victorian extension to Cardiff Castle, seen from an angle I haven’t approached before:
Here are two carvings from the famous Animal Wall, a Victorian wall along one end of Bute Park with carved animals that apparently gave rise to a beloved children’s series in the 1930s. Because they front a busy road, the animals have had to be replaced several times due to damage from road fumes. The anteater has a very obviously recent nose grafted onto an older, more worn face. I will get more animal wall pictures when the lighting is better.
And last but not least, one of the castle walls bordering a path in the park. I posted a picture of this wall in a much earlier post speculating about the age of the castle gate just visible in the left corner of this picture (bracketed by the tower on the far left and another tower just out of the shot). I’ve since realized that this is the back of the Roman gate reconstruction from the 1920s.
