I know this is a horribly blurry picture. My blog apparently doesn’t like uploading panos. If you can’t tell, this is the view from the top of the Norman donjon in the middle of the Cardiff Castle grounds, overlooking downtown Cardiff.
So I visited Cardiff Castle today. It’s a ten-minute walk from my dorm room. If the music building wasn’t in the way, I would be able to see the battlements from my window.
The “tourist price” for admission to Cardiff Castle is £12.50 for a day pass. The student price is £6.00 for a three-year unlimited pass. You get a very official-looking photo ID called a Castle Key.
Guess who’s going to be taking her morning jog around the battlements for the next six months?
Today the castle had been invaded by at least two hundred schoolchildren less than three feet tall. I will have to come back and take more photos and slow down to read the plaques on a day that isn’t field trip day. I spent most of this one trying to outrun the tour groups.
I did, however, go up to the Norman keep, because there were enough steep stairs to dissuade any but the hardiest history buffs. (Those steps are much steeper than they look.)
The little bit of tower in the left corner of the pano at the top of this post was taken from the top of that gatehouse tower (right below the flagpole).
I will create a more complete post about this castle at a later date.
