Because of the horrible legacy of the residential schools that the Canadian education system used to indoctrinate First Nations peoples, it is a duty and an obligation of educators in Canada to make the education experience more meaningful for Aboriginals. Aboriginal epistemology is holistic, experiential and functional. European-based education is, by contrast, quite theoretical. Thus, while it is important to retain those theoretical aspects of education in our system, it is important that we integrate Aboriginal knowledge into the curriculum as well. I have taken it upon myself to create a few lessons that prompt students to make leather gloves that are similar to the gloves that I saw at the Museum of Anthropology on the Vancouver UBC campus that were used by Blackfoot First Nations people. I have uploaded a photo of the aforementioned gloves and I have uploaded the four lesson plans composed for the purposes of Aboriginal education.
