Poster and Paper Guidelines

POSTER PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

The poster boards are 8 feet wide by 4 feet tall, and each board will be shared side-by-side by two posters. You will therefore have an absolute maximum of 4′ x 4′ (48″ x 48″; 122 cm x 122 cm) as the total space allotted to you. Any poster size or format that does not exceed this space is acceptable. For example, either A0 size or 48″ x 36″ should work fine.

Portrait (vertical) orientation is especially encouraged, since this will make things less crowded given that two posters are side by side on each board. Landscape (horizontal) orientation should be fine as well, however, as long as the dimensions of the poster are within the space limits described above.

(In Poster Session #3 on Sunday morning, posters will be placed on wall-mounted bulletin boards in the room rather than on free-standing poster boards in the foyer. Those presenting in that session should adhere to the same size restrictions as specified above.)

For helpful tips on designing effective posters, see the LSA poster guidelines.

ORAL PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Regular talks are allotted 20 minutes for presentation + 10 minutes for questions and discussion. The three keynote talks are allotted 45 minutes + 15 minutes Q&A. Please take time to introduce yourself to the session chair prior to the start of your session.

For those presenting overhead slides, a (Macintosh) laptop will be available. Presenters can either use that computer, bringing their slides on a USB flash drive, or else project from their own computer. Mac users should make sure they bring the VGA adapter (dongle) appropriate for their particular machine. Please take time to test your presentation set-up during a break sometime prior to your session, to ensure that there are no technical problems.

We encourage all presenters to provide printed handouts, even those using overhead slides for their presentations. Regarding the number of handouts, keep in mind that the estimated total number of registered attendees at the AMP 2015 conference is approximately 130. A fair number of these (two dozen or more) are undergraduate students at UBC or SFU, many of whom may only be planning to attend a portion of the conference program. Also, the number of attendees present on Sunday is likely to be slightly lower than on Friday or Saturday. With these facts in mind, 110–120 is probably a safe estimate for adequate numbers of handouts for presentations on Friday or Saturday and ~90 for Sunday.

Presenters are encouraged to bring their photocopied handouts with them to Vancouver, rather than leave the photocopying until arrival. Note that there will be no photocopying facilities available at the UBC Robson Square conference site. The most conveniently located copy shops nearby are probably the following two, each located about four blocks from the conference site but in different directions:
