The Applied Behavioral Science Association (ABSA) has launched a new set of standards to help structure the field of applied behavioral science. Here’s more from them:

ABSA has worked in partnership with top experts in the applied behavioral science field as well as industry to add more definition and credibility to the field of applied behavioral science, while establishing pathways for aspiring professionals to join this exciting discipline. After two years of extensive reviews and edits by over 100 esteemed applied behavioral scientists across academic disciplines, industries, and sectors, we have created a comprehensive set of standards that aim to provide guidance and clarity to those engaged in the application of behavioral science and their partners.

The ABSA Standards comprise five pillars of skillsets that are vital in this field:
1️⃣ Domain Knowledge
2️⃣ Research Methods & Impact Assessments
3️⃣ Intervention Design
4️⃣ Communication
5️⃣ Ethics

These pillars serve as the foundation for professionals seeking to excel in applied behavioral science. Whether you are looking to enhance your core work competencies as an “Associate” as a behavioral science subject matter expert, or you hold a key role as a “Professional” where applying behavioral insights is core and integral to your organization, these standards provide a comprehensive framework to support your journey. ABSA designed these standards to be a helpful guide in developing job descriptions, creating curricula for educational programs, and creating a learning path for those just breaking into behavioral science. With that in mind however, these standards are also a live document, and the goal is to continue updating it, so please share how you use it and give ABSA any comments and feedback you may have!
