Presentation Evaluations and Reminders

Hi Everyone,

Here’s what I will be evaluating in your presentations this week:

  • Content: whether you have included all of the information required, logical arguments, authentic facts to support your recommendations, implications of your recommendations, content in your responses to questions, etc.
  • Style: voice projection, clarity of speech, eye contact with the audience (vs. reading heavily from notes), memorable conclusion, handling of questions, etc.
  • Time management: within time limits, appropriate use of time for part A vs B
  • Use of media: polished and proofed slides, smooth transitions between sections, media that support (vs. distract from) your speaking, etc.

Content and style will be weighted most heavily.

Reminders:

There will be a grading form for ALL students to fill out in class during the presentations, including what grade you recommend each team should receive!

There were questions for you to address in the Assignment Outline word document (posted on Vista), please make sure you are addressing those.

Think about what questions I may ask you, what your responses will be and who will be answering them.

I am really looking forward to listening to your presentations and hearing all of your terrific ideas.

Good luck!

Writing Improvement Program

I have been reviewing your Skills Matrix and Team Charter documents and there are a number of teams who could use some help in the areas of writing and editing. So I wanted to make sure you knew about the free Writing Improvement Program at Sauder.
The Canaccord Learning Commons hosts the program Wednesdays from 2 to 5 pm.  The instructors encourage you to bring something you’re working on at the time so they can help you with it. So if you plan ahead on your assignments, you can get the help you need! And I encourage you to do so, because flow, grammar, clarity, spelling etc. are very important to me in grading your assignments (hint, hint).

Setting up and registering your blog to the blogroll

Hi Everyone,

Your Blog Assignment outline has now been posted on the vista site in the Assignment folder.  See below for instructions on setting up your blog and adding it to the blogroll.

Looking forward to seeing some great creativity and insight!

Set up your blog:
If you have never set up a UBC blog before, there is a great resource to walk you through it. Go to this link to Dr. Blog and follow the instructions.

Access your blog: Dr. Blog also tells you how to find and access your blog once it’s set up. https://blogs.ubc.ca/drblog/first-steps/finding-your-blog-2/

Register your blog to the Comm 296 blogroll: You must register your blog to the correct section blogroll for 296, or your classmates and I will not be able to find it.   Follow these simple steps:

    1. Go to the course blog: blogs.ubc.ca/comm296sec103

  • Enter your last name, then first name (e.g. Dickson, Jenny)

  • Enter the course password: marketing.

  • Click the “Register your blog” button. The button can be finicky sometimes, so if it does not seem to be allowing you to press it, refer to the picture below for the exact spot you may have to find and click in order for it to work:
Showing the exact spot on the “Add Link” button that you might have to click to get the widget to respond (it can be finicky!)

PLEASE NOTE: Only click the “Add Link” button ONCE! It may take some time to load, so please be patient. If you do end up adding your blog to the blogroll more than once, don’t worry – I have access to the links and will delete any duplicates. No need to email me about that.

Customize your blog: Dr. Blog is also a great resource for customizing your blog’s appearance. Have some fun and show your personality and interests!  Make sure you adjust your privacy settings so we can access your blog.

Why not get started right away?
