This narrative and critical review were submitted as an “Oral History Project” for CULT 360. It illustrates part of the story of the author’s grandfather, a Peruvian man whose childhood was affected by the economic insecurity of Juan Velasco Alvarado’s military dictatorship in the 1970s. It shows an example of a “history from below,” an experience not often told that highlights the hidden truths within the dominant narratives of history.
Valeria Díaz Cuba is doing a Cultural Studies minor and was in her third year at the time of this project.
