The Return: How Ghana Constructs Itself as a Site for Black Pilgrimage is a podcast-style audio presentation that examines how Ghana has positioned itself as a symbolic destination for black pilgrimage and the reclamation of African identity. By tracing Ghana’s evolution towards heritage tourism and its intersection with diasporic ideals of returning to Africa, this presentation explores the spatial and socio-cultural ways the country constructs this global image. This presentation also considers how the discourse of return is experienced and interpreted by Ghanaians and members of the Black Diaspora.
This presentation was submitted as part of a CULT 495A Directed Studies course.
At the time of the recording, Kassia Ella Agboka was a fourth-year Economics Major and Cultural Studies Minor. Her interests include community development, decolonial studies, gender justice, and education policy.
