Biography

Hi, welcome to my blog!

My name is Amy and I am currently a third year student in the Bachelor of Computer Science program (BCS) at the University of British Columbia. The BCS program is a two year bachelor’s program for people that already has an undergraduate degree. I majored in mathematics in my first degree. It took a while before knowing that my interests were in mathematics and computer science. Originally, I majored in psychology but as time passed, I wanted to study a major I was passionate about. Since I was young, I have participated in numerous mathematics competitions and have always won awards from them. Furthermore, I was in an accelerated mathematics program ever since elementary school. Hence, I chose to major in mathematics. However, I was not confident that I would excel in the major, so I chose to do a double major in psychology and mathematics. I later dropped my psychology major to focus solely on mathematics. Majoring in mathematics was the best choice I made because it introduced me to computer science as there were two introductory computer science courses that I was required to take. Taking these two courses led to my pursuit of a second degree in computer science.

My academic and professional interests lie mainly in mathematics even though I am currently majoring in computer science. I enjoy problem solving and analyzing data. Therefore, I aim to pursue a career that is also related to mathematics. As I am currently still at the beginning of my second degree, I am still considering whether I want to pursue a career in data analytics which is related to mathematics or a career in security which is related to computer science.
