You immediately know who you are talking to right? You know what you are in store for?  It could be be a crazy outfit?  Unorthodox makeup? Perhaps some sort of statement supporting the individual to be the individual? Be yourself, because you are beautiful.

Lady Gaga has become an icon for being true to who you are.  She challenges norms and assures her fans that who they are is amazing.

Well, what if being yourself could be shaped by the the way we use the internet?

This advertisement is implementing aspirational strategies.  It is pulling on your emotional ties to Lady Gaga.  People see her as “Mother Monster”, an inspiring figure that encourages individuality.  If GoogleChrome is part of the process to being yourself, then why wouldn’t someone use it?

Lady Gaga is known to be very active in social media.  Her twitter page boasting over 53 million followers.  Throughout the advertisement Lady Gaga is shown typing to her followers, emphasizing the connection between fan and celebrity.  Along with this, the separation between a celebrity and fan is further bridged by integrating fan made covers and dance videos into the advertisement.

So you want to be yourself?  Want to show people why you are so unique and awesome?  Your moment is now! Download GoogleChrome and release your inner monster.

    I’m wondering: do you think this advertisement will drive people to use Chrome? You ask the question, but I’m not sure what your opinion of the answer is… Would be fun to know.

  2. I think by associating yourself with a figure like Lady Gaga, Google Chrome puts themselves in a positive light. Therefore, when choosing a browsers I believe the individual would be more drawn to Chrome. In addition, this advertisement shows the functions of Google Chrome in relation to connecting to YouTube. The advertisement both hits the emotions of the consumer with Lady Gaga, and the functional requirements that the consumer looks for in a browser.
    Also, Chrome’s slogan of “The web is what you make of it” aligns well with Lady Gaga’s message of being yourself and being creative with who you are further strengthening to power of the add.
