Whip out your cards, its networking time!

We are finishing up our second year of business school, and my peers and I have been engulfed by our courses this past year and we have been learning about how to live in the business world we plan to enter.  We are constantly learning, constantly absorbing, and constantly networking.  Forming friendships and creating a network has never been more evident as the vital ingredient to the recipe of success.  Marketing does not only apply to selling a product or service, it applies to us.  As students are marketing ourselves whenever we send a cover letter or resume, take an interview, or meet an industry professional.

As Bayne Vardy said in his blog, something as simple as a business card is all about making an impression.  It shouldn’t be something plain and boring.  No one pays attention to boring marketing.  Why should they?

It is important to consider your target market when making a business card.  What do the people you are handing this card want to know about you?  What do you want to tell them?  Are you presenting yourself as a creative and innovative marketing student or as an scrupulous and dedicated accountant?  This should be reflected by the design of your card to attract the right customers(as in employer or connection) for you as a student.

I am planning to specialize in marketing and have taken a fair amount of time when creating my business card.  Check it out!

The picture on the side of this card is a mural I painted on my wall and those cranes are hanging from my ceiling.  I wanted to do something different to differentiate myself from all the other business cards out there, so I added a personal touch that comes with a story and demonstrates my strength of creativity.

Don’t just make a business card, make something that has a story, something that shows part of who you are, because after all, you are marketing yourself, so do it properly.

Cheers!! ^_^
